Dissecting Photography Hoaxes

These days a lot of news is off the mark, which is not in accordance with the reality or what we call hoaxes. With hoaxes, information cannot be conveyed properly, and will instead be widely spread to the general public. Therefore at iSTTS held a KSP (knowledge sharing program) which discusses photography hoaxes by Mr. Yulius W. N., S.Sn., M.Si. This KSP was held on August 28, 2019 in room E-402. With enthusiastic participants, of course the room was full.

At the beginning of the session, Mr. Yulius explained what hoaxes were and what the consequences of these hoaxes were. Hoaxes are often used to bring down other people or also many people who make hoaxes for fun, but the general public thinks that these hoaxes are real and misunderstood. The easiest hoaxes to make are in photos and text. With an edited photo or the author does not understand the meaning of the photo, the information conveyed must be wrong.

It's hard to understand if many don't understand the photo, but just write a description of the photo. Or there are those who dare to change photos or change text for certain purposes. For example in the political field, to defame someone's good name will certainly create untrue news about that person. As a result of this news, the general public would begin to lose faith in that person.

Therefore, the importance of knowing the news is very necessary so as not to absorb the same thing. “In the past, people were more concerned with reading a lot of news in order to be smart. But now, people have to be smart first, then read the news, ”said Mr. Yulius. We must digest all news first so as not to misunderstand and spread it to others. If the news is wrong and we spread it, it is like a blind person leading a blind person across the road.

And at the end of the session, some tips and tricks were given to make hoaxes. This session was conducted so that all students could know which ones were hoaxes and which were not. One of them is photography. With photos that are increasingly broken or unclear, the better the hoax is. In other words, many people believe. And the second is to provide some directions with circles or arrows, so that the reader's focus is more focused and believing.

Indeed, this session was a fun session and gave new insights to the participants. And in closing, the most important thing is to crosscheck the news. Why is it important? Because, by crosschecking we know what is true and what is a hoax.
