DESIGN PRODUCT DURING COVID 19

ISTTS held another Knowledge Sharing Program (KSP) Season 8 Episode 3 on Friday (26/2/21) with the theme "Design Product During Covid-19". This time, KSP was presented by one of the lecturers in the ISTTS Product Design department, namely Detyo Cmapoko, S.T, M.Sn. This webinar was held online through the zoom platform and YouTube live streaming which was attended by internal and external ISTTS participants.

At the beginning of the material, Mr. Detyo explained the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic which has changed many aspects of life including politics, social, economic, cultural, and so on. As a result, this certainly changes the behavior of all people in carrying out various activities such as those who usually meet at places of worship in person or in face-to-face teaching and learning activities to become virtual due to the new implementation of health protocols and activity restrictions. This kind of impact ultimately makes product designers innovate to create new, better and unique products. Product design is required to focus on developing innovation, especially on furniture design according to health protocols while maintaining the aesthetics of the design itself.

Mr. Detyo then showed some design models that had been adjusted to the current conditions and still looked elegant. Some of them are chairs for studying where at the top there is a cover to protect the transparent upper body so that you can still see around. Other product design innovations are also found in products such as faceshields and transparent masks that can protect from exposure to bacteria while still showing the face.

He then showed a video in the form of various kinds of innovations that have been created by product designers such as power air-purifying respirators, nosy nose masks, and revoneck hair shaving. According to Mr. Detyo, one of the efforts to survive the current pandemic is through product design, both for design functions in certain conditions and for the long term.

The event then continued with a question and answer session regarding product design and ended with taking a photo together and filling out the attendance and questionnaire given by the committee.
