KSP Season 6 Episode 6 : Welcoming New Normal With 3D

BE MORE CREATIVE WITH 3D

On Monday, 13 July 2020, ISTTS again held a webinar of knowledge sharing program (KSP) season 6 episode 5 with the topic “Welcoming New Normal with 3D”. This seminar was attended by internal and external ISTTS participants through the zoom platform and also YouTube live streaming. This time KSP invited 2 speakers, namely Mr. Martinus Brahma Dwi Laksana, S.T. or commonly known as Mr. Bram and Mr. Ivan Eliata Kusuma, S.T., M.T. as the Head of ISTTS Product Design Study Program. The webinar in this episode contains an explanation and sharing about 3D and its application in the Industrial 4.0 era.

As we know, the industrial development from 1784 until now has been very rapid, starting from the industrial era 1.0 to 4.0. Pak Bram shared how fast and rapid the development of the industrial world was, even in 2017 Indonesia declared to be a new industrial country. Of course this has an effect on many sectors in Indonesia, especially regarding design until 2019 is declared as the year of Industrial design. The development of the industrial world finally requires us to be creative even though the current pandemic conditions have made many activities limited and more independent. Therefore, he also said that we must be able to adapt and innovate to maintain economic growth.
One way to increase creativity is by implementing 3D designs. Pak Bram explained that there are 2 types of 3D application, namely in the field of graphics and the field of modeling. In the field of graphics, 3D provides a new experience in the 2D world and can make illustrations in the world of education so that students can imagine the lessons learned with the illusion of images. Meanwhile, in the modeling field, 3D is used for designing designs such as buildings, vehicles and software. This is useful for minimizing the error rate that will occur in product manufacturing.
Mr. Bram also shared that in the development of the 3D world up to now, it was at a point where the design had been produced in real terms so that a tool to record an object was developed to facilitate duplication of the product, so that a tool in the form of a 3D printer was present which made it easier for designers to realize product designs. they.
The material was then continued by Mr. Ivan Eliata Kusuma, S.T., M.T. or commonly known as Pak Ivan. He then explained about 3D printing. What is 3D Printing? 3D printing is a scalable object creation application using plastic as the main material. The process is by melting plastic in a 3-axis projection until it forms a complete object in accordance with the design or design made. He also demonstrated the printing process and explained several parts of the 3D Printer tool such as a nozzle for removing and shaping material into objects, filament as a material for printing objects, bed as a base for objects and a hose extruder as a tool for heating the filament to make it liquid and then pushing it out. through the nozzle. Besides 3D Printer, Mr. Ivan also explained about 3D Scanning which is applied for Reverse Engineering. 3D Scanning is useful for making it easier for designers to duplicate objects or products in order to reprocess the product into a new shape without the need to fulfill product dimensions.
One of the 3D Scanning tools is the Hand Held 3D Scanner. Mr. Ivan shows how to use the tool starting from turning on the tool, then directing and moving the sensor on the object to be duplicated. The form of the product is then captured through the device sensor and will automatically appear in the connected application on the device on a computer or laptop screen. After that we can process the 3D Scanning result design according to our wishes.
The seminar was then continued with a question and answer session and sharing between participants and resource persons regarding 3D Printing and Scanning and ended with taking a group photo and also filling out questionnaires and attendance for participants.
