Borderless IT Recruitment

Right now the whole world is going through the same thing because of the Covid-19 pandemic. The whole community is required to work-from-home and change everything from semi-online to online. Many things have changed, such as communication now is not face to face but more to virtual gatherings, until recruitment which is usually more to the area itself, now participants can be recruited from all over the world.

This underlies ISTTS to hold a KSP Special Season 10 Episode 1, where webinar participants have the opportunity to gain knowledge about Borderless Recruitment. This webinar will be held on Friday, September 3, 2021 with the theme “Borderless IT Recruitment”. Mrs. Caroline Suhardjono, MBIT who was the resource person for this episode is the “Webstore Data Administrator” at Seadan Security & Electronic Pty Ltd, Melbourne, Australia.

The seminar started with a self-introduction from Mrs. Caroline and she told her career journey. Mrs. Caroline graduated from ISTTS in 1998, then continued her studies at RMIT University, Melbourne, Australia. While studying at RMIT, Mrs. Caroline can conclude that in fact the theory in Indonesia is as good as that abroad, but it is a pity that the practice/portfolio is still not honed.

After graduating, Mrs. Caroline faced challenges in applying for jobs ranging from companies asking for experience, to having flexible hours where outside working hours she was still willing to come to work when needed suddenly. In the end, Mrs. Caroline didn't care about jobs that were only on the specifications she wanted, such as being an IT teacher. During her work, Mrs. Caroline learned a lot of new lessons, starting from being an accountant to becoming a webstore administrator. She said that, "As long as you are willing to take risks, willing to learn new things, then people will give you a chance".

Mrs. Caroline also explained that right now, with the pandemic, all life is more centered at home. By staying at home, there are many positive and negative things. The boundaries between work and relaxing at home are disappearing, many end up working almost 24 hours a day. In addition, because everything is online, IT people are needed to make companies semi-online. Then, recruitment is also completely online, company projects can be done online at home without having to come to the company.

Mrs. Caroline suggested several tools, namely;

  • https://trello.com/ <for team and project management>
  • https://www.freelancer.com/ <for the recruitment of freelancers>
  • https://www.game-testers.net/ <for gamers who want to earn money by becoming a game-tester>
  • https://www.linkedin.com/ <for a place to promote your resume, network, and find a job>

The webinar was then followed by a question and answer session. Then Mrs. Caroline also gave a message that we must dare to speak up/pro-active, dare to challenge ourselves/up-skill, learn many languages and the last one is problem-solving. The webinar ended with filling in the attendance list and a group photo. If you have questions regarding borderless recruitment, you can contact the resource persons via;
