Microsoft 365 is a tool that is commonly used today. Microsoft 365 is classified as SAAS (Software as a service) which means buying subscription-based software. The first episode of KSP season 12 which was held live via zoom and youtube streaming on Wednesday, February 9, 2022, invited Robert as a resource person to explain the registration process and use of Office 365 in detail. Robert is an alumnus of Electrical Engineering ISTTS in 1994 who is currently serving as a Senior Infrastructure Engineer at Loftus Technology, Adelaide, South Australia.
The core components of Microsoft 365 are Exchange Online, SharePoint Online, Microsoft Teams and Office 365. All of these components use Azure Active Directory for authentication purposes. Sis Robert explained that there are several Microsoft 365 packages that you can choose according to your needs. A list of Microsoft 365 products can be seen at the following link: https://www.microsoft.com/id-id/microsoft-365/business/compare-all-microsoft-365-business-products
The first step to using Microsoft 365 is to register as a tenant by filling in the required information. "When registering, fill in the data very carefully, especially in terms of filling in a custom domain because the domain will be used continuously," said Robert.
After successfully registering, we can access the Microsoft 365 Admin Center to add a custom domain which later needs to be verified at the hosting service provider. “When adding a custom domain, we need to use the domain that we personally own on the hosting service. Not yahoo or gmail and so on,” explained Robert.
After the custom domain has been successfully added, the next step is to set DNS records for the custom domain and manage user accounts along with the licenses of each user. In addition, we can also set the administrator role we want to assign to each user.
Exchange Online is simply that our email is registered with Office 365. If Microsoft services are usually based on premise exchange, now it has moved to the cloud. If previously the admin needed to get up early to do maintenance on the server, now it's no longer necessary. "Microsoft will handle it for you," explained Robert.
